About Me
Hi, I’m Tara Moen, professional counsellor. I started out with a career in early childhood development, and I ended up staying home to raise my 4 children. After going through a painful divorce in my late 30s, I found myself starting over. I needed to figure out what my new path should be as a single mom while navigating the new challenges of coparenting. I found that going through therapy myself gave me time to reflect on where I saw myself heading.
My Counselling Career
I thought of how many people go through daily struggles and sometimes feel alone and overwhelmed and just need someone to talk to. I thought of the power of connection and conversation and my desire to help other people facing their own challenges.
I thought of my four children and wanted to show them that while starting over might be scary, it is never too late to make a change, set new goals, and follow your dreams. I wanted them to see that making tough decisions takes courage, but that if you just keep moving forward and focusing on what matters, you will accomplish what you set out to do.
I thought about how best to utilize the skills and life experiences that I have on my new path ahead. I was always told that I was caring, compassionate, and a good listener. I came to realize that my own struggles could resonate with other people.
This meaningful time to reflect led me to pursue a career in counselling.
I completed my Diploma in Applied Psychology specializing in Counselling, to become a professional counsellor. I am a candidate member of the Canadian College of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
My spare time is spent adventuring with my family. Kayaking, paddleboarding, biking, climbing, and walking the dogs keeps me busy and active. Any time spent by the water is a good day.

Client Testimonials
Calm Rivers Counselling
Being close to the water always makes me feel at peace. I love spending a day at the ocean, breathing in the air. I love paddling at the lake, playing fetch with the dogs, or going for a swim. I love floating down the river on a hot summer day. The water always brings me a sense of calm.
When I think of rivers, I also think of strength. When an obstacle blocks a river, the river keeps flowing, finds a way around it, forging a new path. I relate that to so many things in life. We are constantly faced with new challenges, new obstacles and things that can stop us in our tracks. But like a river, life keeps moving, time keeps going and we have to find new ways to navigate through the things that life might throw at us.
We all have that strength inside us, sometimes we just need help figuring out our new path.
